SOS started out as a WhatsApp group created by some neighbours in Langley Grove, Shottfield Close, and other local roads.
When we realised there were TWO proposed developments threatening village life, we produced a simple leaflet and delivered it to most of the roads in Sandridge, alerting everyone about the planning applications, and inviting everyone to join the group.
When Rob White read the leaflet and joined, he soon realised that the WhatsApp group had very limited capabilities for sharing information and media (and it was difficult to find previous information) so he offered to set up this website as a repository for all the information the campaign had amassed, and as a hub for people who were searching for information about the planning proposals.
He registered this saveoursandridge.uk domain for the website, and it's also used for email, to provide a point of contact.
So Team SOS was born!
We are just a group of residents with a common interest in Saving Our Sandridge village. We are a non-political community group representing residents of Sandridge village and the surrounding area. We are committed to protecting the character, heritage, and environmental integrity of our parish and ensuring that new development occurs only in sustainable, policy-compliant locations supported by adequate infrastructure. We do not have any affiliation with any political or religious or activist organisations.
We do not have a professional background when it comes to objecting to housing developments or running campaigns. We are still very much learning as we go and gaining lots of support from other campaign groups across the St Albans district.
The WhatsApp group continues for day-to-day chats and sharing information within the team. If you would like to join, please contact us.
Rob has ring-fenced a personal bank account simply to hold the campaign's funds, in effect being the Team SOS treasurer.
If you would like to meet or discuss anything with the team leaders Laura, Bernie, or Rob, please contact us.
