On 23rd September 2012 a local metal detectorist found 55 gold coins whilst trying out a new metal detector for the first time.
Analysis of the coins at Verulamium Museum confirmed that they formed part of an important hoard, and a further 104 coins were recovered.
All of the coins were solidi which were made between AD 375 and 408. This is the largest surviving hoard that has ever been found in this country.
What else lies under the green fields surrounding Sandridge?
